In reply to your Secret Despatch of the 18th.

ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that on the 17th. of

August last I caused a letter to be addressed to the Secretary to the Government of India enclosing copy of the letter from the

India Office of the 11th. of March which accompanied Mr. Harcourt's 30/11889/15

Secret Despatch of the 23rd. of March, and enquiring when a com-

-mnication on the subject of sending m Officer of the Indian

Police to this Colony might be expected. I enclose copy of the reply of the Government of India together with copy of a further letter addressed to that Government on the subject of the recruit- -ing of Indian Watchman for employment in this Colony.
